- Everyone is connected: Dave always says that everyone is the same because every individual is connected globally since we all live in the same planet. So he can empathize with what Zits goes through, but he does not approve of it. Now that Zits understands what he did before appears to be immoral, he decides to go to Dave and return the guns. He respects Dave because Dave is always so understanding, taking sides with Zits even when the things he have done were so extremely disastrous. By giving out compassion to one, the other gives back the compassion. That’s why Zits trust Dave the most out of everyone that he knew so far. More reasons as to why Dave is so highly respected by Zits is basically: Zits conversing Dave makes him feel as if he is in a safe and anti-evil environment where someone does care about him.
- Compassion and empathy: In the new foster house, Zits’s new foster mom tells him that she is going to pick him up after school. Unfortunately, Zits, since young was always lied to and abandoned by former foster parents, leading to his instinct that this new foster parent won’t go by her word. His understanding foster mother, can see what he has gone through. So she looks through his eye, with all sincerity and tells him he will be picked up after school. She even also comments how he will be their permanent son. This releases Zits’s anger that have been held ever since his father left his mother because he no longer has anyone to target for his suffering. And as was mention earlier, empathy and compassion brings two closer together. Compassion was when his foster mom helps him with his zits, which he have been embarrassed for almost all his life. Noticing this caring attitude towards him, he sort of fell in love with his foster mother because it was all so unfamiliar. One should take note that empathizing means understanding from another's point of view, therefore, with his foster mom empathizing Zits, it means she understands how he feels because she have been in a similar situation. People who are similar tend to be much more closer to the other person.
